En route from Baguio to Manila earlier today, I found myself "emo-ing" (i.e. listening to mellow music haha) away. I'm a melody person. Hence when I listen to music, I tend to judge whether I like a song or not based on the catchiness of its tune rather than the message the song is trying to impart. Oftentimes, my boyfriend makes fun of me for liking songs that talks about heartbreak or devastation, both topics totally not applicable to me.
For lack of better things to do (or maybe it's the mountain scenery or the cool Baguio breeze, hmm) and to divert myself from getting dizzy, I decided to REALLY focus on the lyrics of the songs playing on the radio.
One song I heard was Born For You by David Pomeranz. It's an oldie. It's cheesy. It's SOOO high school. I don't like the song at all! But quite surprisingly, I realized na maganda pala ang lyrics niya. Here's how it goes:
Too many billion people
Running around the planet
What is the chance in heaven
That you'd find your way to me
Tell me what is this sweet sensation
It's a miracle that's happened
Though I search for an explanation
Only one thing it could be
That I was born for you
It was written in the stars
Yes, I was born for you
And the choice was never ours
It's as if the powers of the universe
Conspired to make you mine
And 'til the day I die,
I blessed the day that I was born for you
I think the song is for hopeless romantics, which I am not (???). It talks about being destined to love someone in this world which, quite honestly, I don't really believe in because I'd much rather believe in having a choice rather than being "destined" to love someone.
Or maybe the choice itself is destined? So it may seem like one had a choice but in reality, one was destined to choose what he chose? Aaaaaahhhhhhhh! I'm rambling. I'm too beat to think straight right now.
My companion and I were also talking about popular bands of the 90's. One band we talked about was Eraserheads. There's this one song entitled With A Smile which I hate with all my heart! But again, after pondering on the message of the song, I realized that wow, maganda rin naman pala. Here's how it goes:
Lift your head, baby, don't be scared
Of the things that could go wrong along the way
You'll get by with a smile
You can't win at everything but you can try
Baby, you don't have to worry
'Coz there ain't no need to hurry
No one ever said that there's an easy way
When they're closing all their doors
And they don't want you anymore
This sounds funny but I'll say it anyway
Girl I'll stay through the bad times
Even if I have to fetch you everyday
I'll get by if you smile
You can never be too happy in this life
In a world where everybody
Hates a happy ending story
It's a wonder love can make the world go round
But don't let it bring you down
And turn your face into a frown
You'll get along with a little prayer and a song
Lift your head, baby, don't be scared
Of the things that could go wrong along the way
You'll get by with a smile
Now it's time to kiss away those tears goodbye
Hmm. So now I find myself talking to myself. Now it's time to kiss away those tears goodbye...
